Golf Course Superintendent
Golf Club in Bluffton, South Carolina is looking for a Golf Course Superintendent.
Position Overview:
Agronomics and Conditioning
• Direct fertility, cultural, IPM, and PGR programs on bermudagrass surfaces, including overseeding and spring transition
• Manage irrigation and moisture, course setup, and event preparation
• Oversee bunkers, native areas, lakes, and landscape on the South Course
• Maintain accurate application records and full environmental and regulatory compliance
Leadership and Team Development
• Hire, train, schedule, and lead the South Course team with a strong safety culture and clear accountability
• Mentor assistants by giving them real ownership of projects, budgets, and communication
Operations and Finance
• Plan labor and coordinate equipment needs with the equipment team
• Help prepare and manage the South Course operating and capital budgets, purchasing, and inventory
• Evaluate and adopt technology that improves conditions or efficiency
Communication
• Report regularly to the Director of Agronomy
• Work closely with the golf professional staff, club leadership, and the Golf and Greens Committee
• Contribute to member communications about course conditions and maintenance
Requirements
• Enthusiasm and determination, bringing positive energy to the team each day.
• A strong sense of urgency, with a habit of taking ownership of issues and seeing them through promptly.
• Creative, outside-the-box thinking, with an interest in testing new approaches and letting data guide decisions.
• An efficiency mindset, always looking for better ways to use labor, equipment, and inputs while maintaining or improving conditions.
• A genuine investment in developing people, with the goal of preparing assistants to lead operations of their own someday.
• Clear, approachable communication with the crew, the Director, the golf professional staff, committees, and members.
• 4+ years of progressive experience at a high-expectation facility, including time as a first assistant or superintendent
• Strong warm-season experience; ultradwarf bermudagrass greens and overseeding preferred
• South Carolina commercial pesticide applicator license, or ability to obtain promptly
• Comfort with data platforms, spreadsheets, and new technology
Compensation
$80,000 to $100,000 per year.
